Department of Foreign Languages

The Foreign Languages Department is a vigorous and thriving team of teaching and scientific research. Ever since its establishment in 2000, it has been attaching equal importance to teaching and scientific research, particularly the simultaneous development of teaching reform and course construction. It now has Department Administrative Office, Teaching and Research Office of English Specialty, Teaching and Research Office of College English, Teaching and Research Office of Pharmacy English and Teaching and Research Office of Postgraduate English. It now has 78 staff members including 73 full-time teachers, three professors, fifteen associate professors, one young and middle-aged backbone English teacher of the Ministry of Education and two university-level excellent teachers. All the young teachers hold a Master’s degree and some are studying for PhD. degree.

Ten of the teachers have been abroad for study or further education. The powerful contingent of teachers has a reasonable structure. The Foreign Language Department undertakes tough teaching tasks of PhD. students, MA students and undergraduate students and offers over 30 courses altogether. In recent years, teachers of the Foreign Language Department have successively attained five provincial-level and university-level prizes for excellent teaching achievements and three provincial-level and university-level excellent courses and exquisite courses. In terms of scientific research, teachers of the Foreign Language Department have undertaken 22 various projects of all levels, published over 160 theses and nearly 60 textbooks of different types and other books. The Foreign Language Department has an English reading room, a multimedia language laboratory and a satellite ground receiving system with complete functions and supportive facilities, providing effective guarantee for teaching and scientific research.

While emphasizing class teaching, the Foreign Language Department also attaches importance to extracurricular activities of students and tries to create various real language environments as much as possible during teaching process, enabling students to feel personally on the scene. 

The Foreign Language Department offers Sino-American Culture Exchange Week every year. Face-to-face communication and interaction with American friends, teachers and students have

enhanced their interest in learning language and improved their language skills.

The Foreign Language Department always attaches importance to cultivating young teachers and sticks to “The Tutorship System of Young Teachers”. Experienced and competent teachers holding professional title above associate professorship are assigned to them as tutors. Desirable effects have been produced. 

Teachers as members of CPC are a model in teaching and scientific research of various types. The Foreign Language Department often arranges for them to participate in diversified activities.

In order to improve the quality of graduation dissertation of English specialty, teachers of the Foreign Language Department meticulously guide the students in writing dissertation and strictly control the quality.

The Foreign Language Department employs foreign teachers all the year round. These foreign teachers often invite foreign friends to China Pharmaceutical University, hence creating a more favorable language learning environment.
